Swimming Tracking & Analytics

Computer vision for the pool. Upload race footage or connect a live camera, and the system follows every swimmer, sees who touches the wall first and records each swimmer's time.

The challenge

Coaches and race organizers were timing swimmers by hand and rewatching footage to settle close finishes. They wanted accurate, repeatable results straight from the video, for both races and training.

What I built

  • Swimmer tracking: finds each swimmer in the pool and follows them through the whole race.
  • Finish detection: works out who reaches the end of the pool first.
  • Lap timing: calculates how long each swimmer takes to cover the distance.
  • Live or uploaded: works with recorded videos and real-time camera feeds.
  • Dashboard: a simple web interface to upload footage and review results.

Tech behind it

  • Python + OpenCV for detection and tracking.
  • Cloud infrastructure to process video at scale.
  • PHP, HTML, CSS & JavaScript for the dashboard.
